As the descendant of one of the most famous singers in modern country music, Billy Ray Cyrus, as well as goddaughter to the legendary Dolly Parton, it shouldn’t come as a surprise Miley Cyrus would eventually try her hand at the genre of music.

“I learned from the very best, ya know about makin’ music,” the singer said previously at Wango Tango. “I learned from my aunt Dolly Parton. And so I thought to celebrate, it would only be right if we did a little bit of ‘Jolene’!”

Taking place back in 2012 as part of one of her “Backyard Sessions”, Miley covered Parton’s iconic “Jolene” in a beautiful display of pure talent. Singing the song reminiscent to her godmother’s classic country tune, Miley eloquently nailed every note proving she can hang with the even the best of Nashville’s elite.

While Parton and her husband, Dean, have no biological children of their own, Dolly played an important role in the upbringing of Miley as her godmother. Back in the days of Hannah Montana, the legendary country singer would guest star on occasion in the role of Miley’s aunt and sister to father Billy Ray.

The 1973 single was ranked as one of Rolling Stone‘s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” and has gone down as the most recorded Parton song, according to the country star herself. Artists from every different genre have recorded their own rendition of the song including John Mayer and Norah Jones.

Nonetheless, Miley perfected her performance effortlessly.
