A handful of music’s biggest stars are coming together for one rockin’ tribute concert in honor of The King of Rock & Roll. Celebrating the one and only Elvis Presley, an array of artists across all genres have prepared some of his greatest hits to give fans the experience of a lifetime. One unforgettable performance went down when country music powerhouse Carrie Underwood paired up with gospel singer, Yolanda Adams for a breathtaking medley.
Honoring The King
The Elvis All-Star Tribute aired Sunday, Feb. 17 on NBC. Inspired by the original 1968 iconic special for Elvis, the night included a multitude of star-studded performances in his honor. The line-up included Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, John Legend, Jennifer Lopez, Post Malone, John Fogerty, Josh Groban, Yolanda Adams, Alessia Cara, and Adam Lambert. Specifically, from the country music branch are Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town, Pistol Annies, and Darius Rucker.
Taking Us To Church
Carrie took the stage in a gorgeous black dress with stilettos to match. Standing underneath a spotlight with just a microphone she began to serenade the audience with her gratifying vocals. Singing “How Great Thou Art,” she poured every inch of the gospel tune out of her heart.
This wouldn’t be the first time Carrie stunned with her rendition of the gospel ballad. You may remember her 2011 performance with Vince Gill that stole the hearts of everyone who was watching. Her moving performance showcased her strong faith and talent as fans admitted they felt God was up there on stage with her.
Carrie spoke highly about the incredible tribute concert.
“This special, it lived on forever.” Carrie gushed. “I don’t think anybody knows when they (film a special) how it’s going to impact, but the fact that we’re still talking about it this many decades later is a testament to him as an artist and his music.”
Following Carrie’s tear-jerking performance of “How Great Thou Art,” gospel great Yolanda Adams took the stage for a powerful rendition of the classic Christian hymn “He Touched Me.” The talented vocalists then joined forces to sing “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” As they swapped lead on the verses, the women brought down Heaven with their powerful vocals.
Walk on through the wind / Walk on through the rain / Though your dreams be tossed
And blown / Walk on, walk on / With hope in your heart / And you’ll never walk alone / You’ll never / Ever walk alone”
No one better than these two powerhouses to honor some of Elvis’ greatest gospel covers. The whole night was full of groundbreaking performances from start to finish.
